About the Udjat

The Eye of Horus

The Sacred Eye of the Senses

The Oneness of all Senses

Oneness Within

The Eye of Horus is a magical symbol and is also an example of the mathematical knowledge acquired by the ancient Egyptians.

In the myth mentioned before, Set tore Horus’ eye into six parts. The eye contains six parts which were given a series of numerical values with a numerator of 1 and dominators to the power of 2.

They are linked to our five senses except for one part which is associated with thought and wisdom.

* The right side of the eye is 1/2 (smell)

* The pupil is 1/4 (sight)

* The eyebrow is 1/8 (thought and wisdom)

* The left side of the eye is 1/16 (hearing)

* The curved tail is 1/32 (taste)

* The teardrop is 1/64 (touch)

The fraction adds up to 63/64, the missing part is said to represent the magical power of Thoth.

This part of the brain is linked to emotions and memories. It controls and coordinates everything from the movements of the fingers to the heart rate.

The Eye of Horus depicts the secret areas of the brain that hold the potential for each human to attain enlightenment.

We already mentioned that it is also called the all-seeing eye or the third eye which is represented by the pineal gland located at the centre of the brain.

It stays dormant until the soul reaches a certain spiritual level. Ancient Egyptians believed that it was primordial to nurture our limbic brain so that the third eye would lead us to spiritual awakening.

The symbol shows us what to change in our body to improve our spirit.

Understanding how the limbic system works will help us heal or reshape our brain.

This system is composed of the:

* Hypothalamus controls emotions

* Hippocampus relates to memories and helps you understand the environment

* The amygdala helps coordinate response to things in your environment that trigger an emotional response

Damage to this system stems from trauma like enduring or witnessing abuse, neglect or violence which can result in depression, rage, PTSD and anxiety.

Ancient Egyptians concluded that relaxing the limbic system would heal and reshape our brain.

The first step towards change is to look inward and read everything about this system.

It also represents the part of the brain that contains the pineal gland. In fact, it is exactly what it looks like in the brain in a cross-section, as you can see in this image. This cross-section shows the brain from the right side.

The ancient Egyptians knew of the tremendous importance and power of this tiny gland in the brain, which is not only responsible for the production of melatonin, The most important antioxidant, anti-aging, free radical scavenging molecule in the body, there are integrative tools to improve the brains ability to do this, and also to connect to frequencies and dimensions beyond our sensory perception with our other five senses.

For this reason, it is often called the “3rd eye” however it is really better called the “1st eye”, as it did evolve as a center for sensing frequency from the environment before the visual centers were even a concept evolutionarily.

There is more than the 2 eyes you think you have can see. We can see beyond what we think. Don’t limit yourself. Tap into your senses. They will help you to remember who you are.

The Udjat Yoga Practice is based off of the senses of the body and how to structure within your class. Letting go of structure and allowing free form of qi to flow.
